From AIS Bulletin #205 April 1972 Introducing WATCHWORD. Net $25.00. (C. Curtis Corlew II 1972). Dark and sultry beauty with purple undertones and lots of class. Standards are several shades lighter than the sooty falls. Beard is purple at base with each hair tipped old gold. While not a candidate for the darkest iris available, it is one that performs well in the warmer areas where many of the newer blacks tend to bloom at intermediate heighth. 32". Midseason. Seedling #C2-7A. Dark Fury X Black Swan. EC and HC 1971.
