■(TB) 'Victorine'
1840, Lémon
'Victorine' (
Jean-Nicolas Lémon, 1840) 24", Late bloom. Color Class W3. Standards white flecked deep violet; Falls deep velvety violet irregularly bordered white; primrose beard. This iris was sometimes mixed with the variety
'Thorbecke' which is distinguished from 'Victorine' by having pure white standards (without the splashes). A glass lantern slide (Thorbecke 1.jpg) in the gallery is attributed to 'Thorbecke' but may be 'Victorine', although the shape of the falls looks different.

- Please note that both written and illustrated sources account for
- Victorine: pure amoena pattern
- Mme Lémon: amoena pattern with blue flecks on standards
Therefore, the iris called Victorine nowadays is actually Mme Lémon. One doesn't know when the confusion took place. 18 May 2021 -- PascalJordan
