1999, Spoon

'Uncle Charlie' (Donald Spoon, R. 1997). Seedling# 91-39B. TB, 34" (86 cm). Midseason to late bloom. Ruffled pale lavender blue (RHS 97C) self; beards darker lavender blue, hair tips lighter, yellow deep in heart; flared; slight sweet fragrance. 'Honky Tonk Blues' X 'Silverado'. Winterberry 1999. Franklin Cook Cup 1999; Honorable Mention 2001; Award of Merit 2003; Wister Medal 2005.

From AIS Bulletin #313 April 1999 Introducing UNCLE CHARLIE TB, 34" (86 CM), ML. Wonderfully ruffled and fluted, smooth, light silvery blue-lavender (RHS 97D) self including the darker blue-lavender beards, tipped lighter with yellow hidden deep in the throat. Wide, touching flared falls. Well-branched stalks with 7-9 buds. Name suggested by Charlie Nearpass. From two outstanding Dykes Medal winners. Cross suggested by George Shoop at the 1991 convention. Fertile both ways. (Honky Tonk Blues X Silverado). $40.00. Winterberry Gardens.
