From AIS Bulletin #241 April 1981 Introducing TRUMPET CONCERTO (Zurbrigg). ML, 40". A truly Baroque creation with a trumpet-shaped flounce standing out above each fall like a solo voice in a concerto. Huge, wide, well-substanced flowers. Blue-violet. $35.00. Avonbank Iris Gardens. |
From Zurbrigg's 1988 Avonbank Gardens catalog: TRUMPET CONCERTO (Z 81) 40" VVL. Still an excellent example of this class of iris. Very large flowers sport huge trumpet-shaped flounces, one over each fall. A lavender-blue with deeper falls, it is fertile both ways and a great parent. An outcross to all of Monty [Byers]'s things. GRAND DAME X MISS JUPITER $7. |
