SUN SPOT (Grant 1941) M. Very clear in color this brilliant yellow iris stands out from afar and attracts all garden visitors. The distinct lemon yellow standards are beautifully domed with slight ruffling at the edge. The fluted falls are half flaring of the same color as the standards set off by the splash of white just below the deep yellow beard. An outstanding iris with many firm flowers evenly placed on sturdy graceful stalks. H. M., A. I. S. 1941. Per. R. 88 1941. $10.00.
[Mrs. Thomas Nesmith, Fairmount Gardens Catalog, Lowell, Massachusetts, Introductions for 1941. Summer 1942-Spring 1943].
"SUNSPOT (Grant). If you don't like the white spot on the falls, you'll call it simply another yellow; if the white spot appeals to you as distinctive, you'll consider it one of Grant's very best." [Bull. A.I.S.
82:37 July 1941].
