From Schreiners Iris catalog, 1944: SUEZ (Schreiner 1944) M. 33". In Suez we have an unusual oriental colored iris of great merit. It is a descendent of that remarkable iris William Mohr. Suez is large, rounded and broad and is a rich shade of oriental reddish purple with an unusual veining and spotting pattern inherited from both its parents, Wm.Mohr x Mme Louis Aureau. Important is the fact that Suez is the first of the race of pogo-cyclus iris, to which family of hybrids Wm. Mohr belongs, that yields fertile pollen and is capable of setting seed as well. In fact it sets seed to its own pollen and is of undoubted merit as it should to be an invaluable stud for plant hybridizing. This iris as a garden plant is most satisfying. We have found it to be one of the easiest of this entire series to grow. A fancier's iris that we were most agreeably surprised to find in our seedling bed. Price, each $15.00. |
