From R. Wallace Co. catalog, 1922: SPEED (Newlands, 1922) (Trojana x Amas). This very handsome and striking variety has been singled out by many as one of the finest of the "blue" Irises in our Nursery. Flowers very large with light blue standards in bold contrast to the fine dark purple falls. C IY. 31/6 eac. |
From Bonnewitz catalog, 1927: SPEED (Newlands/Hort). S. silvery-blue with a sheen over them; F. long and rich violet- purple with prominent brown-purple markings at base. Orange beard. Large bloom. We have had this celebrated variety five years, and it has made very little increase, and bloomed only during one season, and so we cannot recommend it. It is probable that California growers may be able to have better success with it. Height 15 to 18 inches. $10.00 |
