When I first started hybridizing, I thought, "Why can't you combine the wonderful things that Larry Gaulter is doing in Castro Valley with the great things Jim Gibson is doing in Porterville?" After the seedlings appeared, I found it wasn't that easy. SOCIAL BUTTERFLY is the best to date from a program of breeding for softer-toned, tangerine-bearded plicatas. This one is a red, white and blue iris- all in soft tints- and has proven useful in a program of breeding pink plics. (Smoke Rings X D72-101B: (April Melody x (Gaulter sdlg. #68-593: Meggie x Laurie))). $25.00. Cottage Gardens.
