From Hallcroft Iris catalog, 1949: SKY RANGER. Seedling 45-05. A very tall, stately and heavily ruffled medium blue. It grows to a height of 54 inches and the three way branched stems open one flower at a time on each branch. The flowers are large, of very attractive form and good substance. The stems with three flowers open have held up when many named varieties in the garden have gone down during storms. $20.00
Sky Ranger (Hall '48)—A spectacular flower of medium lavender blue color and large size. It has beautifully ruffled form with wide petals on tall, well branched stems. The color is very much like that of Chivalry but it looks like an excellent grower to produce so well on a young plant. Winegar, Nina N. (1949). Iris Time in the Rockies, The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 116 (January 1950), 68.
Mr. Hall's 1948 introduction, Sky Ranger, is a fine one, a light blue that does range the skies. My notes show that in June, 1946, when it was known as 45-05 I measured it as 56 inches tall with first branch at 35 inches. It has many well spaced branches and very graceful flowers with a strong erect stalk. From its appearance in the garden this year, it has not receded from that pitch of excellence.
