From Fleur de Lis Gardens catalog 1956: SHOCK WAVE (Tompkins 1955) M. L. 40 in. (Spindrift x (Spring Maid x Far West)) x Loomis X-1 0-44 x Overture). A reverse bicolor of a new and most unusual combination of colors. The standards are clear clean orchid and the falls Apricot orange with at times faint flushes of orchid in them. A tangerine beard adds to the bizarre color effct. The coloring seems to vary with either weather or soil changes as some seasons we have seen the falls almost orange toned and other seasons the apricot color has been quite infused with orchid. The flowers are very large with broad rounded petals and semi-flaring form. It has been a great attraction in our garden ever since its first bloom and should be a most interesting parent. Stock very limited. Net 20.00. |
