1976, Zurbrigg

'Secretariat' (Lloyd Zurbrigg, R. 1973). Seedling# 69-2. TB, height 33" (84 cm), Midseason bloom. Standards light magenta; falls deep magenta with deeper hafts; white beard. 'Amethyst Flame' X 'Alpen Majesty'. Avonbank 1976.

From AIS Bulletin #221 April 1976 Introducing SECRETARIAT. Very sharp magenta bitone, smoothly blended golden brown at the haft. The famous horse's white blaze is present in the form of a snow white beard, startling against the solid haft. Unlike him, it is a very female parent. Non-remontant in Virginia. 30", 2 & T. $25.00. Avonbank Iris Gardens.
