1912, Millet

'Roméo' (Millet et Fils, 1912) TB 30". Late midseason bloom. Color Class Y9M. Diploid From France. Uneven citron yellow standards; Mauve and rich reddish-violet falls with throat striped maroon on white ground. Sometimes found being passed around under the name "Peacock's Eye" or 'Pfauenauge'. Millet et Fils 1912, 1920; Variety superseded.

Ground light sepia washed purple; F. blackish purple at tip (height 35-50 cm/14"-20").
From Treasure Oak catalog, 1923: "ROMEO - S. citron-yellow; F. center lilac, sides Rood's violet; foliage tinged purple at base. The striking coloring of the Falls, together with the peculiar yellow of the Standards is very pleasing. $1.50"

From Frank Campbell catalog, 1923: "ROMEO - S. lemon dotted brown; F violet center, purple edges. Medium-sizred flower of an out-of-the-ordinary color. Well branched. Has very small rhizones."
From Movilla Gardens catalog, 1923: "ROMEO - S. uneven citron-yellow; F. purple, throat streaked maroon and white. Fine rigid flower of fair size; growth moderate. Rather striking and unique. 30". $4.00."
