| From Fairmount Gardens catalog, 1948: RED MAJESTY (G. Douglas 1946) L. The color is deep Eugenia rose (Ridgway), a self except for the yellow infusion at the center of the flower. The blooms are large of rather rounded form with standards flushed yellow at the base of the strong midrib, the falls semi-flaring, overlaid with the same rich yellow around the thick yellow beard. The perfect placement of the flowers on the five way branching stalk allows four flowers to be open at one time with no crowding. Heavy substanced blooms, vigorous growth. H. C., A.I.S. 1945. R. 87 1946. 42 in. $15.00. |
| Red Majesty (Douglas)—without benefit of color charts I call a bright rosy red, and add that catalogue descriptions do not do it justice...a faint flush of violet at the haft, which is bronzed with a small amount of striation-not enough to be offensive. It has very good flower balance and good branching. Mathews, Mrs. W. R. (1949). Tall Beardeds in Louisiana, American Iris Society Bulletin 116 (January 1950), 60. |
