From Avonbank Iris Gardens, Bloomington, IN (1961 price list): QUIVERING FLAME (1960) -- A novelty, this brilliant orange and dark-red bi-color has standards that are completely covered with crests. This, with the brilliant orange (not gold) color, makes the name most appropriate. Bears no pollen, and does not set to many pollens, but gives good sets when it does. Princess Anne pollen gives good sets on it . It is poorly-branched - (bunched at top), but the flowers are large and showy, with excellent substance and good form, 36" in height $4.00. |
From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog 1963: QUIVERING FLAME (Zurbrigg '60) LM-34". Unique. Standards have irregular raised ridges & crests in lower half, on both sides of midriff. Some crests are petal-like & project out 1/4". Standards bright orange, falls very dark red--like orange flame over smoldering bed of coals. Extravaganza X Pathfinder. Regularly $3.00; on $10 order $2.20; on $25 order $1.70; 3 for $4.85. |
