From AIS Bulletin #205 April 1972 Introducing "PRAISE THE LORD" Seedling #J68C27. This iris is a deep Moorish blue bitone with the S (Wilson 739/3), and the F (739). The falls are very broad with heavy substance and ruffling. The white beard sets the iris off very nicely. There are four branches plus terminal with 10 to 12 buds. With all these blessings it still has one more, a very sweet and pleasing fragrance. Sterling Silver X Allegiance. Region 13 Conv. Seedling Queen 1971 H.C. 197.1 Net $25.00. Jack Boushay. |
PRAISE THE LORD (Boushay '72) is the now famous first introduction from that hybridizer. Tight blossoms of a deep Moorish blue with startling white beards are well placed on fine stalks. While some people prefer self beards, the white beard here really set the flower's personality. PRAISE THE LORD (Boushay, 1972), was as good as the many slides I had seen of it. This was one I wanted to see this year. This deep violet-blue with a big fuzzy white beard proves that you do not always have to have the latest varieties to get somewhere in breeding. But when you consider taking the best qualities of the two fine irises STERLING SILVER and ALLEGIANCE and put them together, you can get a very fine iris. The branch- ing and strong plant habits were especially impressive. [Dyer, Perry. “Roanoke 1974, and Points West.” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society. 221 (July 1974): 29.] |
