'Plicata var. B' (Collected or garden Hybrid,
Pierre-Joseph Redouté, 1812), TB, Midbloom season. Color code=B1; Considered to be a natural or garden hybrid, or possibly a color form of
Iris Pallida. Originally described in Redouté's Les Liliacées as variety B of iris plicata. Ironically even though nowadays plicata is synonymous with a white ground and colored edging, Redouté chose to illustrate the plain violet form which he called variety B. See French description accompanying
vol. 6: table 356, 1812. Also mentioned in Prince catalog 1822: Baker in the gardeners Chronicle 40: 806. 23 Dec 1876: Lynch Book of Iris p.151, 1904: Macoun; Journal Horticulture 3rd: Service 48: 515 1904: Gillot 1928;
Synonym: iris plicata amethystina in Annales de la Société d'Horticulture de Paris of 1838 (p. 458).
