From Fairmount Gardens catalog, 1948: PENSIVE (Grant 1947) M. Few very dark iris have depth of color, excellent form and substance, but in Pensive we find all three. It is a self of velvety blackish purple, with uniformity of color throughout. A cross of Sable x Deep Velvet, it has better branching, substance, and nonfading qualities than either of its parents. One of the most pleasing dark iris of recent years, and has been praised by many iris lovers. Heavy substanced flowers, good branching, and vigorous growth. 38 in. $15.00
