From AIS Bulletin #232 Winter 1979 Introducing MIRROR MIRROR (1979). 36", EM, #46-3A. $25.00. The most unusual and strangely beautiful iris I have had the pleasure to create. The standards are a blend of rich greyed orange highlights, veins and lace. The ground color is yellow. It is in the falls the unusual appears. The ground color is a light clear yellow, having a white area around the tip of the rich orange-brown beard. The lacy and ruffled rim has a rich, narrow stitching of greyed orange, repeating the color in the standards. A most attractive and unusual feature of the falls is the ellipse or eye-shaped center line 1/8" wide from the tip of the beard nearly to the bottom of the fall. This mirror or polished silver line appears wet and shiny even in the faded bloom, but is perfectly dry. This area is framed by a distinct rim of greyed orange. MIRROR MIRROR is in no way a freak, but an unusual, beautiful addition to the iris variation. The first bloom of this line of development had about 50% bloom showing this tendency. Further crossing has carried it almost 100%. In effect, an orange-brown plicata blend with yellow ground. The unusual is the prominent mirrors on the falls. Gibson Iris Garden. |
