From AIS Bulletin #301 April 1996 Introducing LEMON CHESS TB, 36", ML. Ruffled creamy yellow self with golden beards and a slight sweet fragrance. A show stalk iris with thirteen buds per stalk, this variety is a good exhibition iris as well as a garden subject, blooming over an extended period. Named for a Southern confectionary tradition. Exhibition Certificate 1993. Silent Screen X Catalyst. $30. Walter Moores.
Hybridizer's comment: Named for a Southern classic lemon pie, this iris is the ultimate in a light yellow with a near red beard. The growth, branching, and bud count are exceptional. It is a parent of the equally delectable 'Chocolate Chess', also a Southern decadent pie.
