From Tell’s Iris Gardens catalog,1959: LAKE ISABELLA (Charles Salzer, Lake Isabella,California). Midseason-Late. 40 inches. (Pinafore Lass x Kim.) This big white plicata nicely marked with violet has the bearing of a stately queen. The markings are even and there is no blaze-mark down the center of the falls that mars so many otherwise lovely plicatas. Since Kim is a decendent of the great breeder Purissima we think this grand plicata holds unlimited possibilities for breeding fine plicatas and could be used with Orchid Queen, Memphis Lass, Taholah, Dotted Swiss, and Caroline Jane to good advantage. LAKE ISABELLA is the first introduction from its erratic pod parent. $25.00 |
