'Inheritance' (Sanford Babson, R. 1977). Seedling# V141-9. TB, 36" (91 cm), Early midseason bloom. Pale orchid self, fading to white; full orchid beard. Seedling# S40-6: ('Claremont Classic' x 'High Above') X seedling# P106-1: ('Apropos' x 'Commentary'). Melrose Gardens 1978.

From 1978 Melrose Garden Catalog: INHERITANCE (Sanford Babson '78) Tall Bearded 36" Sdlg. V141-9 (Claremont Classic x High Above) X (Apropos x Commentary). Going way back to the beginning there was a seedling of unknown parentage that was numbered E61-3 with suggestions of blue and orchid beards, at least its progeny began showing signs of this genetic characteristic and it all consummated in the iris Commentary which has given so much to blue-bearded breeding. Commentary is three time in the parentage of this iris and now finally we get the beards that have been developing through so many generations. Orchid-white flowers quickly fade to white thus emphasizing the bushy, full ORCHID beards!.....25.00 Illustrated inside front cover.
