'Huntsman' (Henry Sass, R. 1955). Seedling# 53-55. TB, 36" (91 cm). Midseason bloom. Color Class-R1D, Very dark "blackish brown" self. (Pod parent involves 'The Red Douglas', 'Garden Flame', 'Starless Night' and 5th gen. seedlings from ('Golden Age'' x 'Prairie Sunset') x ('Orloff' seedling x 'Casque D'Or')) X 'Red Chieftain'. Fleur de Lis 1955. Honorable Mention 1955.

From Fleur De Lis catalog, 1956: HUNTSMAN (Sass 1955) M. 36 in. (A red sdlg. from lines from The Red Douglas, Garden Flame, Starless Night(Golden Age, P. Sunset, Orloff, Tiffany, Casque D'ore and Hans Sass first red seedling) x Red Chieftain. A rich, vibrant toned Chocolate red of large size 'and fine form with a very clean haft and rich velvety finish. The flowers are heavily substanced and nicely formed with ruffled petals. Superb. H. M. 1955. 20.00
