From Quality Gardens catalog 1931: GRAND MONARCH (Rowell 1929) L. 40" V.E. A grand variety. Very tall, with large flowers. A self color, velvety bronze red of the deepest velvet and the greatest substance. Heavy golden beard, golden style arms and golden haft, which gives a marvellous illumination to the center of the flower. The contrast of the gold center with the velvety red of the standards and falls, gives a combination of richness of color unsurpassed by any other Iris. It is aptly named as the exceeding depth and richness of the substance, velvety red color and brilliant gold beard, reminds one of the velvet mantle and gold lace of Louis XIV. We strongly recommend this to all of our customers. $13.50. |
