From Carl Salbach catalog 1940: GOLDEN MADONNA (Essig-Salbach 1940). To say that Golden Madonna is a beautiful iris would convey to the reader only half of the picture. In addition to being beautiful, Golden Madonna impresses one with its purity of color, elegance of form and finish. The very large blooms of good substance, are beautifully poised on tall, strong, well branched flower stalks. The standards are well domed and are creamy yellow color; falls are semiflaring and are milk white, edged old gold. The upper fourth of falls is bright lemon yellow with a bright orange beard. Three prominent iris growers rated Golden Madonna at 94 and said "Well worth introducing, and a wonderful iris." Midseason. 40". $15.00. |
