From AIS Bulletin #205 April 1972 Introducing ETHEL HELMS (Muhlestein) #239. L-VL. 38". (Bon Vivant X 193: Valimar x 57-104: First Curtain x Mary Randall». Domed yellow standards; falls white bordered yellow, and so wide the hafts nearly touch. Two branches and terminal, 7 buds. Has that ultra-modern look. Fertile both ways. Named for a lovely friend who bred the hemerocallis I release this year, and its fine parent, Gary Bee. Will close the TB season. Net $35.00. Tell's Gardens.
"ETHEL HELMS was a beautifully formed cream-white, with a narrow edging of yellow on all the petals. This perfectly branched iris was one of the best ever in this color class." [Ron Mullin, “An Iris Holiday.” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society #208 (January 1973): 15.]
