From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog, 1956: DOWN BEAT (Tompkins 1956) E. ML. 40 in. ((Campanula x Gulf Stream) x Columbia. A deep and very brilliant violet blue self of large size and excellent form with broad, heavily substanced and cleanly tailored petals. The hafts are smooth and clean with the rich color of the petals extending into the very center of the flower. One of the first to open, it blooms well into late midseason. A good grower with broad and very dark green foliage it produces strong stalks with wide branching and perfect placement of blooms. Down Beat quite often carries four open blooms at once and is a fine iris for the show room, and it has in our experience been an attention getter no matter where it has been planted. No. 53-192 . H. C. 1955. 20.00
