- Many thanks to Catherine Adam for helping us learn the correct name of this fine old iris. It is given as just plain 'Valéry Mayet' in the 1939 Check List, with 'Deuil de Valéry Mayet' given as an alias. In reality, it's the other way around. Valéry Mayet was a French entomologist and professor of zoology in the late 1800s; he introduced at least one species of North American salmon to Europe. -- Nancy McDonald - 2016-04-09
