(1938) CORINTHE. Each $10.00. A new French introduction from Cayeux that was awarded a special Certificate of Merit in Paris in 1934. The flowers are of immense size and beautiful coloring, with broad arching standards of rich silky bishops violet. The falls are broad and spreading, of richest velvety bishop's violet. A strong grower, reaching four feet in height. Very few rhizomes. [Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1938] |

(1945) CORINTHE (Cayeux, 1934) A huge purple self, bishop's violet by Ridgway, with an almost white beard, blooming at the very last of the season. Each 50c; 3 for $1.25. [Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1945] |
(1948) Because Corinthe is one of my personal favorites, I do wish it were better known. This French iris is a great, flaring flower of bishop's purple. Technically a bitone, the velvety falls are an almost imperceptible shade darker with an edging, subtly blended, of the violet of the standards. So late that it blooms with 'Angelus', to my great delight, as I have a perfect passion for pink and purple combinations. [A Critical Evaluation of Older Iris, A.I.S. Bulletin 110:56/July 1948] |
