From Melrose Gardens catalog, 1968: CONFECTION {Sanford Babson '67) M. Sdg: M98-l8 (Commentary X ((Sdg: E6!-3 x Cahokia) x Storm Warning)). This is a rather short iris, standing only 34" even on tip-toe. The flowers are not overly large, either, conforming well with the height of the well branched stems. But the color here is a color with "otherness," so intangible that the best we can do is to say it is a full-toned bluish-pink-lilac but with not much pink in it and with an orchid haze through the center of the flower. Tucked under the broqd base of the standards where they rest on the wide hafts of the falls is a deep rose orchid glaze that gives a shadowed quality to deepen the throat and out of this depth emerges a soft orchid beard. So sweet and tempting that you won't be able to leave it alone. HC'66. 20.00. |
