From Carl Salbach catalog, 1932: COMSTOCK (Salbach 1932). This new plicata is perfectly distinct in color from any other plicata and as different from Cayeux's Cydalise or the Sass plicatas as it is from the Mohr-Mitchell giants, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The standards are maize yellow with lilac markings and suffusions. The falls of primrose yellow shading to cream have heavy reticulations of brown on golden yellow. There should be no question of its hardiness as its parentage, Sherbert and Fortuna, guarantees this. We do not claim that this is a fine garden iris, but it is a new "break" in breeding that will save one generation for any breeder working for big yellow-ground plicatas. $10.00. |
