From Wallace Iris Gardens catalog 1955: CLARA B.- (Muhlestein '52). Charming indeed is this heavily ruffled seedling of Chantilly in lemon-gold and white. The entire flower is white with a border of lemon-gold. Unusual and beautiful. Mid-season to late. Net $7.50. |
From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog 1956: CLARA B. (Muhl. 1952) M. L. 37 in. Chantilly x (Hall 42-10 x SQ 72). Beautifully formed and heavily ruffled white with glistening gold border around all petals. Choice. 4.00. |
From Tell's 1952 catalog: CLARA B (Muhlestein) Midseason-Late. (Chantilly X 46-2F: Hall's 42-10 x [Loomis'] SQ72.) Heavily ruffled white with lemon-gold border on standards and falls. Another Iris where the ruffling adds distinction and charm. We decided to name this in honor of Clara B. Steel (sister of Fabulous Kate), one of Utah's earliest iris fanciers and one who has been an inspiration to this and other growers. Yet, we discovered we had two other friends with the same name: Clara B. Rees (the breeder of Snow Flurry) and Clara B. Fox of Iowa, so it will be an iris to recall the names of those fanciers and I hope they may be pleased when they see their namesake. Because of its blood we feel it will be useful to breed pinks as well as heavily ruffled things. No. 48-74. $15.00 |
