Chief Poking Fire—Mid-season. Height 32 inches. Wide standards, of Neutral Red and Mars Violet (Ridgway). Falls wide, rounded, spreading, of Oxblood Red and Victoria Lake. Styles yellow, brushed with color of the standards. Beard orange. Overall size of flower 5½ x 6 inches. Definitely on the “red” side. Each $15.60 Net
From Cooley's, 1945: CHIEF POKING FIRE (DeForest, 1942). A new red with very wide standards and falls, the latter rounded and spreading. Each $6.00.
From Fairmount Gardens catalog, 1946: CHIEF POKING FIRE (DeForest 1942) M. L. A very different but lovely red that last year impressed me as having great merit. It is a self of deep red that seems to have a bronzy gold infusion throughout. The standards are well domed and firm, the falls of flaring rounded form. A trim neat flower with well branched stalks. Per. R. 87 1945. 35 in. $4.00.
