From Sass catalog, 1937: BUTO (H .P. Sass, 1926)- A rich dark purple bicolor with velvety nearly black falls of great size and a great bloomer. Makes a fine mass. 30 inches. 25c
From Sarah Toedt’s Springtime Gardens catalog, 1929: BUTO — The largest dark blue purple I have seen. Blackish tones in the wide velvety falls. This and Sass Bros. No. 33 Purple attract more attention than any other purples in our garden.
