From AIS Bulletin #309 April 1998 Introducing BLUTIQUE (Messick '98) TB, 36" M89-52 (Purple Pepper x Breakers) X Batik. Blutique is a child of Batik with better form and height. This was my only attempt at variegated iris and the only one that ever appeared. Differing from other "broken color" iris, it is a clean, clear color of bright median blue on white with blue beards. Is well formed and very ruffled thanks to an assist frem Breakers. Well branchod, good substance and fragrant too. $35.00. Messick Garden.

• I have a bluetique in Zone 9b. (Far North Scottsdale AZ at the base of the Tonto National Forrest, about 2250' elevation, bordering Zone 9a). We have fairly extreme heat, but stay 5-10° cooler than the rest of the Phx Metro area. Every 4 or 5 yrs we get a freak dusting of snow. Mine took 4-5 yrs to really get established in a large, well drained pot on my patio, facing North East with morning to early afternoon sun. But once established it finally put off great blooms. I decided in Fall of 2020. No blooms for Spring 2021. It does seem a little finicky in my area, preferring to be well established before it considers blooming at all. -- WikiGuest - 01 Aug 2021
