BALMUNG is an imposing iris, handsomely broad-petaled and full, and the marking is confined to a definite, relatively narrow margin along the edges of both standard and fall. I consider it and colorful 'RUTH POLLOCK' the finest iris in their class. [Schreiner, Robert (1943). The Evolution of our Yellow Plicatas.>American Iris Society Bulletin, 88>(January 1943), 60.]

From Sass catalog, 1949: BALMUNG (H. P. Sass, 1939)-Yellow plicata. S. and F. yellow, bordered brown. Flowers large on tall and good branching stems. $1.00

From Schreiner's 1951 catalog: A striking yellow plicata. Broad petals, regular markings of clear brown on pronounced yellow background. Well formed, large flowers on tall stems. Sass 1939.
