From Carl Salbach catalog 1950: ARGUS PHEASANT (DeForest). A smooth, soft brown self, with immense blooms. Was very popular with visitors who attended the 1949 American Iris Society Convention in Oregon. Wide standards, and broad, flaring falls. Orange brown beard.Good growing habits. Mid-season. 36". $18.00 each.
From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1952: A smooth soft brown self which has become justly famous in the short space of two seasons only. It thrilled visitors at American Iris Society conventions in both Nashville and Portland, and ranks with Pretty Quadroon as the two finest and most beautiful light brown Irises of the day. Huge flowers with broad flaring falls and wide standards; orange-brown beard.
