| EUROPEAN IRIS TOUR Bee Warburton pages 16-21, the following is found on page 21: BADENWEILER, THE BOTANICAL GARDEN After a visit all too brief we were on our way back to Laufen, stopping at the Botanical Garden in Badenweiler to visit its Director, Dr. Bruno Muller. We found Dr. Muller supervising some work near the pavilion, a new structure of exciting modern styling. Dr. Muller is under pressure to display the flashy type of bedding plants, but so far has managed to maintain plantings of the important perennials, of which a fairly large bed of spurias show excellent bloom. Looking particularly handsome were: CONTRADICTION, in chocolate brown standards and golden falls lined and bordered in brown, one that does well for me in Massachusetts; INTENSITY, a very bright orange-yellow self; CONNOISSEUR, tan yellow with copperbrown edging on the falls, and touches of violet; MARILYN HOLLOWAY, delightfully ruffled combination of lavender and lemon; MOON BY DAY, blue bitone with very pale blue falls, bordered deeper; and INDIAN PUEBLO, deep tan yellow blended with brown, and excellent form. |
