The phenomenon seems to be related to the white markings on Iris foetidissima variegata and the seeds produce seedlings with red 'berries'."-Anne Blanco-White; Listed by Four Seasons (John Metcalf). A variety of Iris foetidissima L.

Note: Under today's rules for the Horticultural Code of Nomenclature using Latin names for cultivars is banned, but this was not registered as a cultivar but noted as a botanical variety. I. Foetidissima.
