'Velvet Night' ( Peg Edwards, R. 1959). Seedling A-202. SIB, 20" (51 cm), Midseason bloom. Color Class-V1BD, Dark blue-violet self. Parentage unknown. Melrose 1962. Honorable Mention 1963; Morgan Award 1969.

From AIS Bulletin #165, April 1962. Introducing VELVET NIGHT (Peggy Edwards). Siberian. Though not a large flower, this iris is unique with its deep, very velvety violet color with no distracting marks. Vigorous and floriferous. Net $10.00.

  • SIB 'Velvet Night' was blooming at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, zone 4b, approximately, June 8-12, in 2017. It has spathes that are almost maroon in color, but I didn't see any Purple Based Foliage at the base of the leaves. -- HollyJohnson2017-04-01 - 10 Aug 2017
