'Rare Jewel' (Steve Varner, R. 1978) Seedling V5121. SIB, 25" (64 cm), Midseason late bloom. Standards violet-wine-lilac; Falls violet-wine-lilac-white; light blue styles. 'Illini Charm' X sibling. Illini Iris 1979. Honorable Mention 1981.

From AIS Bulletin #232 Winter 1979 Introducing RARE JEWEL: SIB, Sdlg. V5121. ML, 25". (Illini Charm sdlg.). No other introduction has this combination of colors: Violet-wine-lilac and white, with light blue styles. Lower than usual clump has 4 charming smaller flowers per stalk. Very floriferous. $25.00. Illini Iris.
