Hybridizer's Comment - 'Turning of the Fagus' (2020). Seedling B-05-02: (Hussy x Trust in Dreams). This seedling is named after one of the most visually spectacular events that occurs in Tasmania; the turning of the Fagus. Every Autumn the Tasmanian Deciduous Fagus (Nothofagus gunii), or Deciduous Beech, changes to tones of fiery yellow and orange in Tasmania's alpine wilderness regions attracting thousands of visitors each year. The small trees grow in thickets with ancient gnarled trunks forming an impenetrable obstacle. So we are pleased to introduce 'Turning of the Fagus', a lower growing SDB that covers itself in yellow flowers with darker olive toned plicata markings early in the season. The form is very pleasing and the height is 20-25 cm. |
