1981, Niswonger

'Raspberry Jam' (O. David Niswonger, R. 1980). Seedling# 7-78. SDB, 12" (30 cm). Midseason bloom. Red violet with deeper spot on falls; white blue beard. 'Rangerette' X 'Amazon Princess'. Cape Iris 1981. Honorable Mention 1983; Award of Merit 1985; Cook-Douglas Medal 1988.

From Cape Iris Gardens catalog, 1980: RASPBERRY JAM (Niswonger '81) SDB 7-78: Rangerette X Amazon Princess, SDB,12" (30 cm), Mid., RV8. The idea behind this cross was to develop a red as vigorous as Amazon Princess. It isn't red but it is one of the most vigorous of any median you will find. The bright red violet has a deeper spot of the same color in the falls. This one will quickly make a clump of color. $10.00
