'Crimson Velvet' (Cleo Palmer, R. 1973). Seedling 7003. SDB, 10" (25 cm), Early bloom. Standards red violet; Falls deep red-violet; yellow beard. 'Lilli-Yellow' X 6502: ('Green Spot' x I. balkana cultivar 40C). C Palmer 1974. Honorable Mention 1976.

From AIS Bulletin #213 April 1974 Introducing CRIMSON VELVET: SDB, 10". Sdlg. 7003. S. medium red-violet; F. deep red-violet with velvety texture; yellow beard. F. are well flared, wide, round and of heavy substance. Good form breeder, and throws some mauve to medium red-violet things with deeper red-violet spots. Lilli-Yellow X 6502 ((Green Spot x Balkana (40 C cultivar) not species)). $5.00. Palmer's Iris Garden.
