Ella McKinney , R. 1920). DB. Color Class-B9D. Midseason bloom. Standards dark red-violet; falls black-violet; orange beards. Parentage unknown. Synonym: Midget. McKinney 1923. Longfield 1938; Schreiner 1938.
Note: Although originally registered as DB, Black Midget would be an SDB in today's classification based upon its height as noted in Reference below.

In Totty's 1923 catalog: "Black Midget (McKinney) This is another delightful dwarf of deepest black purple. Its stems are also sometimes two flowered and it makes the richest possible spot of color in the spring garden. The foliage of this variety and that of Glee remains fine throughout the season. Late April and early May. 12 inches. Price . . per plant, $3.00 " |
