'New Idea' (Ben Hager, R. 1970). Seedling MTB2009A. MTB, 26" (66 cm), Early midseason bloom. Rosy mulberry self; yellow beard. Seedling A668A: ('June Bride' x Iris aphylla 'Thisbe') X seedling M1381A: ('Frenchi' x 'Pagoda'). Melrose Gardens 1970. Honorable Mention 1971; Williamson-White Award 1976.

  • Very important iris, it is in the pedigree of most tetraploid MTBs -- LoicT - 03 Dec 2009
  • MTB 'New Idea' bloomed at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, approximately, May 16 - June 2, in 2017. It has purple spathes, but I didn't notice any Purple Based Foliage at the base of the leaves. -- HollyJohnson2017-04-01 - 06 Aug 2017
