(MDB) 'Curiosity'

1903, Perry

‘Curiosity' (Amos Perry). DB, height 8" (20 cm), Early bloom. Color Code-!S6L. A blended light olive and yellow bitone. ‘Balkana' X 'I.pallida'_ subspecies cengialtii. Perry 1903. Synonym: Balceng Curiosity.

Balceng, very handsome hybrids of I. balkana x I. cengialti, the falls in the flowers being artistically flaked. They are intermediate in their period of blooming, filling the gap between the very earliest of the Dwarf bearded Irises and the taller and later flowering bearded Irises.
From Barr's catalog 1906: Curiosity (3), S. primrose, suffused green, F. yellow, flaked bronze, beard orange, ht. 15 in.
From Bonnewitz catalog 1920: Balceng, CURIOSITY. S. a pleasing chlorine-yellow; F. yellow, splashed with purple and olive; 8 in. 25 cts.; $1.50 a doz.
