Searching MDB Parentages

While it is particularly hard to create new MDBs that stay in class, certain parentages would possibly be predictive of chromosome counts and the genetic makeup of the cultivar. See the currently identified Parentage examples. The present page describes the searching used to identify particular parentages for that page..

pumila X pumila; Should be one of the most straightforward searches. In looking at the previously identified examples, using "I. pumila X I. pumila" including the quotes as the search should locate desired examples. However, searching the title and text for this gave zero results. This is even though it clearly should have pulled up the examples we already had! Those I. pumila's are linked and I believe the raw view is what is being searched. Finally searching "pumila_ ]] X" with the quotes included, gives 23 entries in the MDB web: These represent the current I. pumila X something found. The majority of the crosses located were pumila X pumila. By checking all of them, the number of MDBs listed for this class of crosses was increased from 4 (seen here) to 17 (in this version).. A bonus from looking at all these crosses was the first example found of I. pumila X TB, which is 'Eburna'.
