What's New in the Iris Encyclopedia

The Iris Encyclopedia, aka the Iris Wiki, is always evolving and growing. This page collects many of these changes. It also provides links to American Iris Society happenings.

January 2026

• Popularity Poll - The AIS Iris Popularity Poll entry form has now been revised to provide for international participation. Voting will close on January 31, 2026. Use this link to get to the online voting form. Online Voting Form
• 2026 AIS Shows Schedule - The Shows Schedule for 2026 is now being posted. Check back often as it is routinely updated as additional shows are approved.
• AIS 2026 National Convention, May 18-23, 2026 - Registration for the AIS 2026 National Convention featuring New York and New Jersey gardens is open and information for the convention can be found by clicking here.
• Brad Kasperek's Hybridizer Page - Brad Kasperek's Hybridizer Page now has both a medals gallery and a broken color novelty gallery.

November 2025

• Popularity Poll
• The 2025 AIS Iris Popularity Poll opened for voting on November 1 and will close on January 31, 2026. The poll is open to all classes of irises, both bearded and beardless. You will be able to type in the names of your favorite irises in an online form and submit it electronically. You will be asked to give the state where you garden, the name of the iris (up to 25 different cultivars) and the class of each iris you named. You will also be asked for the voters’ names just in case several people use the same email address in order for those to be counted as separate voters. We hope you will restrict your votes to irises you have seen growing well in your region or home garden.

• This poll is open to anyone, you do not have to be an American Iris Society (AIS) member to vote. Because the poll includes all classes of irises, AIS can determine what irises people are enjoying all over North America.

• AIS is hoping that analysis of the data (especially useful if enough people vote) will show favorite irises by region and state. AIS also hopes to use the data to see what irises do well in the frozen north, the humid southeast, the hot desert, and under other growing conditions. Maybe you will find that there is a class of irises you didn’t know does well in similar growing conditions to yours. Results could let you know the names of different types of irises you might want to try.

• To participate in the 2025 Iris Popularity Poll, choose up to 25 favorite irises that you have seen growing well in your area. If you are unsure how to spell an iris name, please check the Iris Encyclopedia. You can access the online popularity poll between November 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026.

October 2025

• News from Italy The web pages dedicated to the Orto del Giglio Fiorentino have just been updated with 96 selected photos of the 2025 flowering of Iris florentina L.: https://www.valico.com/pages/fioritura_25.html This year, the season at the Hortus Iridis florentinae in Florence was very long, thanks to a massive pre-flowering that began in the second half of January and merged seamlessly with the actual flowering in March-April, which continued until the end of May in the wooded areas at higher altitudes. • 2025 Registrations - have begun. See the 2025 images galleries to find them. So far there are Tall Bearded, Intermediate Bearded, Standard Dwarf Bearded, Arilbred, and Siberian 2025 Image Galleries.
• And our first New Hybridizer for 2025 is Timothy John Taylor from Australia.
• Introductions by Year - are new image galleries we have started this year. See 2023, 2024, and soon 2025 versions starting here.

November 2023

• 2023 Registrations - pages for the 1255 registrations for 2023 have been added to the wiki with links on the appropriate hybridizer's page.
  - photos, where available, have been downloaded from the AIS register and added to these pages with one being selected as the highlight.
  - all 1255 registrations have been added to the 2023 galleries. The number of pictures in each gallery has been verified against the register to ensure all the irises are listed.

January 2023

• A page with thumbnail sketches of the Sections and Cooperating Societies was created for the 2023 AIS Membership Drive.
• Beginner's Corner is not new. However, several new items have been added to it. And its counterpart in the Irises Bulletin has additional resources.
• Image Galleries for the 2022 registrations are being created. There are individual image galleries for each type of iris.

December 2022

• Creation of pages for 2023 cultivars has begun. These are created with names and pictures from iris hybridizers/growers websites or catalogs. You can search for these pages. There are 20 pages as of 12/24/22. Registration information for these cultivars is added as it becomes available from the registrar.
• A page for Iris Jigsaw Puzzles was created. This is in addition to the Daily Iris Puzzle Archive that was created during the Covid-19 pandemic.
• The AIS Webinars page was created. AIS has presented 30 webinars and links to their YouTube recordings can be found in this page.

November 2022

• The Iris Calendar 2023 was created. This collects upcoming iris happenings by month.
• Affiliate Pages for all the 2022 AIS Clubs were created. These all can be found using the Local Clubs by State page.
