Describing color has always been a challenge. Through the years various individuals and organizations have tried to create color charts to which living material could be compared.
One of the early color charts was the Ridgeway Color Chart.
The most commonly used color chart today is one developed by the Royal Horticultural Society. Generally one sees something like RHS 91A in a description. This refers to the Royal Horticultural Society page 91 and section A.
