Sarnia, Ontario, Canada
Wadland was active in the Canadian Iris Society circa 1956. (CIS-N n43 p26, April 1970). (Researched by Don McQueen)
Mr. Wadland, a druggist by professio , lived in Sarnia , Ontario. He was one of the early members of the Canadian Society, his membership going back to at least to 1950. In the early 50's mention began to be made of his fine seedlings. In 1952 he registered 'Violet Grace' ('Violet Symphony' x 'Gloriole' ) which was introduced by Tell Muhlestein in 1955. It won an H.M. in that same year. So highly did Tell think of this Wadland origination that he used it as a parent in producing 'Utah Valley' ('Snow Flurry' x C Rees seedling) x 'Violet Grace'. And 'Utah Valley' went on to win an A.M. in 1961. In 1959 Mr. Wadland registered and named three more seedlings 'Lori Wadland', a white self with white beard from involved parentage which included 'Violet Grace', 'Midwinter', another pure white from the same or simila cross and 'Royal Visit', an aster violet from 'Danube Wave' X 'Violet Grace'. In 1961 came 'Kami-Kay', another white self from 'Snow Flurry' x 'Violet Grace', a selection made for Mr. Wadland by Mr. Henry Walter of Oklahoma City . In the late 50's and early 60's Mr. Wadland held several positions in the Canadian Society 2nd Vice-President, Director and Judge of Trial Bed Seedlings. (CIS newsletter, vol 26 n 2)
